The storytelling brilliance that made Jeremy Wade's TV show, River Monsters, such a hit is on full display in How to Think Like a Fish. Fishermen aren't typically known for their honesty, though that stigma is changing, at least within the fishing community, but this books is a beautifully honest look at the failures, trial and error, and natural instinct that have made Wade a successful angler all over the world. From carp fishing close to his home in the UK, to catching giant catfish in India and South America, to catching vicious goliath tigerfish in the Congo, the reader joins Wade on his adventures and gets behind the scene stories from his time filming River Monsters.
With a name like How to Think Like a Fish, you expect a book full of fishing tips, and this book does not disappoint. Years of learning through studying the fish he pursued and through trial and error gave Jeremy Wade so much knowledge to share. I wasn't surprised that this book made me a better fisherman, but what I was surprised by was that this book changed the way I looked at the world and forced me to examine my own habits and consumption. Wade discusses the state of the world's rivers. How we, we being the human race, have caused the disappearance of the apex predators of these river systems, and how if we do not make changes there will be no big fish for our children and grandchildren to experience fishing for.
The bottom line is that I cannot recommend this book enough. I thoroughly enjoyed every word. If you would like to order a copy for yourself, click here.
